What is Bhakti Yoga?

Yoga is more than just a physical exercise. The word “yoga” comes from the Sanskrit root Yuj which means to link up with, or combine. Bhakti is derived from the Sanskrit word bhaj, which means – loving service. Bhakti-yoga means to connect to the Supreme (Krishna) by means of loving devotional service. This is the process by which we purify our consciousness, stop further pollution, and arrive at the state of perfection, full knowledge, and true bliss.

The path of bhakti-yoga is developed through a variety of activities. These include meditation by chanting God's name either individually on beads (japa) or in community by chanting mantras accompanied by music (kirtan), reading sacred texts such as the Bhagavad-gita and Srimad Bhagavatam, associating with like-minded spiritual aspirants, eating sanctified vegetarian food, and living in a way that upholds the principles of truthfulness, mercy, austerity, and cleanliness, are all core practices for a life of follower of bhakti.

Who is Krishna?

"Everybody is looking for Krishna. Some don't realize that they are, but they are. Krishna is God, the Source of all that exists, the Cause of all that is, was, or ever will be. As God is unlimited, He has many Names. Allah, Buddha, Jehovah, Rama: All are Krishna... By serving God through [Bhakti Yoga] each thought, word, and deed, and by chanting His Holy Names, the devotee quickly develops God-consciousness."

-Krsna, The Supreme Personality of Godhead (Preface by George Harrison)

Is it okay if I arrive late?

Yes please still come to the programs. We appreciate your association even if only for a little while. Of course, the best recipe for easing the mind and elevating the soul is to mix all three: Discussion, Music and Dinner. Either way, please come when you can.
